Speechless. Thank you for refusing to let this story go untold.

Your words took me with you, happily it was only in my active imagination. The inhumanity affects everyone, and falls most deeply on those of you who are sentenced to this dreadful "time out". Thank you for writing as only you can do!

What an ordeal Christopher went through. It’s absolutely inhumane. hope he never has to enter solitary again and will be able to continue with his studies.

My son went into prison as one man after 8 months in solitary - was forever changed. Now, years after his release, he wanders as a homeless schizophrenic person who rails at the world. The guards knew his mind wss breaking, and they did nothing at all to stop it or to treat it or to offer medication. Solitary confinement is torture. Thanks for shedding an inside light that reflects in some ways the odd letters he sent from that dark cell.

Thank you so much for sharing this, Catharine. I’m so sorry about all the pain and sadness you and your son have endured, and I’m glad our story was able to shed some light for you.

I will read tonight, this sounds so heartbreaking... I was a US Marine, and a cop, and then I commited a crime and went to prison... and I did 3 and half years in Solitary confinement... my mind broke too... but lets talk soon... sending you love!

This piece is riveting from beginning to end. Absolutely heartbreaking. I too entered the memoir contest and of course, was disappointed when I didn't win. All I can feel now is that Christopher deserves this prize 100%. I look forward to his book.
