I Remember the Shoeshine Man
A Staten Island native revisits his childhood commute and discovers a foreign yet familiar ferry.
This is a personal crossing on the Staten Island Ferry—a return to the journey I so often took in childhood, growing up in Staten. In video and still photographs I explore the boat that was a regular playground for me, observing the similarities and the differences of those long-ago voyages. This piece is a personal message from me to those past ferry days.
