If You Were Captivated—Or Appalled!—By Our 'Therapist Sex Dare' Story...
Dive deeper into that saga and hear from the analyst herself, along with many other fascinating, complex characters on Narratively's Believable podcast.
If you’re like me, you had verrrrry strong feelings when you saw the headline of the mega-popular Michael Stahl piece “The Day My Therapist Dared Me To Have Sex With Her,” which we shared earlier this month. Those emotions probably intensified as you began reading and got to the point where Mike’s therapist, Lori, exclaims emphatically, “Let’s have sex. Right here, right now,” in the middle of a session. You might have demanded to know how a professional tasked with helping people could have possibly justified such a seemingly reckless and predatory action, and perhaps you wondered if Lori still has a license, or if Mike’s tell-all inadvertently (and justifiably) ended her therapy career.
Now’s your chance to hear from Lori herself. I sat down with her, and Mike separately, for several hours in an audio booth in Lower Manhattan. I also consulted an expert in the ethics of psychology. And, well, things got interesting and animated pretty quickly.
You can hear all about it in “The Dare,” an episode of Narratively’s narrative nonfiction podcast Believable, which I host and think you’ll love.
It’s a podcast that explores how our unique personal stories define who we are, whether we like it or not. In each episode, we dive into an eye-opening true tale in which narratives conflict and different perspectives about the truth collide with an ear-splitting bang.
From opposing perspectives on a near-death experience that shook a family to its core…
…to a remarkable and inspiring story of reconnection across decades shared through two different POVs.
Believable explores the gray area between extraordinary experience and objective truth. It’s a true labor of love that I created with some phenomenally talented collaborators. Listen wherever you get your podcasts — I hope you enjoy it.
