I’m so glad the guest judges for our inaugural Narratively Profile Prize chose Lisa Heyamoto’s riveting saga about a little known but massively significant high school baseball game played in a WWII internment camp. I haven’t been able to stop thinking about this story since the first time I read it, and it’s been amazing to see the reactions pouring in from Narratively readers around the world who are equally blown away. (BTW I am so not a sports guy so if you’ve been hesitating to read this one because you aren’t either, heads-up that you don’t need to know a single thing about baseball to appreciate this gripping human story.)
