Listen to Episode 2 of 'Track Change' and Meet a Country Crooner Desperate for One Last Chance
While awaiting his court date, singer-songwriter Garland Carr reckons with his own choices and tries to lay down a stronger foundation with his girlfriend, Kelly.
Hey, Narratively readers. In case you missed my proud announcement last week, we have a new podcast out called Track Change, which we produced with VPM for the NPR Network. It follows Grammy-winning icon Speech Thomas of the hip-hop collective Arrested Development as he collaborates with an incredibly talented group of incarcerated men to produce an album inspired by their lives. We’re getting a lot of fan mail about our debut episode, following a man named Teddy Jackson as he writes a hip-hop anthem charting his hopes, dreams and demons. (And yes, we are sorry but you’ll have to wait a few more episodes for an update on Teddy!)
Today, episode two is out, and it tracks a man named Garland Carr who, with his soul-stirring baritone, might very well be collecting Grammys were it not for his addiction and long list of mistakes. As Speech tells us, Garland has “all the charm, all the talent, to make it as a bona fide star.” And Garland says he’s finally ready to change. Have a listen and see if you think he has what it takes to make it on the outside. Subscribe at NPR, Apple, Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts.
