This Weekend's Read: A Super Strange True Love Story: My Disappearing Fiancé
After years of avoiding love, writer Annalisa Merelli found a match that seemed almost too perfect. They were practically walking down the aisle before she realized it really was too good to be true.
I have a confession to make: I’ve worked at Narratively for over five years, as the executive editor for the last year and change even, and I hadn’t read this story before. I was always intrigued by the premise, curious to know what a disappearing fiancé looked like exactly, and yet, somehow I just hadn’t gotten around to it. Well! I sure am glad I finally did. Even with the headline what it is, I still felt almost completely surprised when I got to the big reveal. And I was at the edge of my uncomfortable desk chair all the way until then… If you like a love story with a twist, this one is for you… Hope you enjoy as much as I did!
A Super Strange True Love Story: My Disappearing Fiancé
I needed to calm down. It was all working out.
But we did need the papers. And we didn’t know how to get them.
“Maybe it’s a sign? Maybe this wedding thing is a bad idea?” I whined. I was tired, and insufferable.
He laughed. “Aaaamore,” he started, in a sing-songy way. His funny accent on the few Italian words he knew would lighten up the darkest rooms of my soul. “Listen. Getting married is the best idea we’ve ever had and we’re going to do it. It’s all going to work out. I promise.”
