Hi this sounds interesting. Is there a last date for submissions?

Jesse Sposato's avatar

Nope! It's a rolling call. Thanks for your interest!

I am a Palestinian from Gaza. I got engaged during this current war. I want the story to bea read. I also have another story about the worst night of my life where in one point, everything changed and we started to seek safety and survival. Please let me know where can I submit my pieces? Or where can I send my pitches? I was the top international on substack for sometime but I lost access to my previous website, that's why I am reaching out from here. You can see my previous page here: https://substack.com/@samahzaqout

I have so many pieces that fit because all of our lives has turned upside down just in a blink of an eye and this is our life here in Gaza. We have been displaced almost 13 times and everytime has a story by itself to be told. Looking forward to hearing from you soon

I submitted a story to the personals a couple of weeks ago and I was wondering if and how I will be notified if it is accepted or not.

When I click on the 'learn more & submit' button, I'm taken to the submissions page for the Memoir Prize. Are you still taking submissions for The Personals as well as the Memoir Prize?

Narratively's avatar

Hi Deborah, sorry for the confusion. You're correct, yes. We had added a note at the top explaining that while our Memoir Prize is open (through December 7), we have temporarily closed submissions for The Personals. We've removed the submission button to avoid any confusion, and we do plan to open The Personals up again in the future, so if you're signed up as a subscriber (free or paid) you will receive a notification when we open up again. In the meantime, we hope you consider submitting to our Memoir Prize, which you can read more info about here: https://www.narrativelyacademy.com/p/the-2025-narratively-memoir-prize Thanks!

I have a question: do the stories have to be our own personal experiences, or can they be from interviews?

Narratively's avatar

For these, we're looking for first-person, personal stories. But we're also open to submissions for our Secret Lives section, which can be reported. You can read more about that here: https://www.narratively.com/p/pitch-us Thanks for your interest!

Hi again - I'm ready to submit an essay that is TIME SENSITIVE but I still do not see on your Submittable link an option to submit to The Personals. Please help me out here.

thanks

Hi - I'm ready to submit but don't see The Personals as an option on the Submittable link.

What to do?

thanks, Lisa

Is there a place I can look to know what the difference is between a submission and a pitch? Is a 2,000 word pitch very different than a 2,000 word submission/story?

Narratively's avatar

Hi Andrew, Thanks for your interest! A pitch is just a couple of paragraphs that explain the story you plan to write about, while a full submission is the whole story. Hope that helps!

My planned submission was printed in a small audience magazine. I still have the rights. Can I submit it?

Hello! I just wanted to check there wasn't a fee to submit to this? Many thanks!

There's no fee. Thanks!
